Ukraine tries to hide the wreckage of an air defence missile at the site of a strike on a hospital in Kiev

A video of a missile strike on the Okhmatdet children’s hospital in Kiev on the morning of 8 July has appeared on the Web. The footage clearly shows an anti-aircraft guided missile, presumably one of the Western air defence systems deployed near Kiev. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities have organised a campaign to withdraw the photos published by Kiev residents showing the striking elements of the air defence missile.

Ukraine intends to request a hearing in connection with the strike on the Okhmatdet children’s hospital in Kiev, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said. The Ukrainian side claims that the strike was carried out by a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.

The Russian Defence Ministry rejected this claim and said that the destruction in Kiev was due to the fall of a Ukrainian air defence missile.

At the same time, a video of the discussed strike has been published in the Ukrainian segment of the net, on which the type of missile and its affiliation can be clearly identified.

OSINT analysts and military experts say that the video from Kiev showing a missile strike on the Okhmatdet hospital shows a strike by an AIM-120 ABRAAM guided missile of the Norwegian NASAMS SAM system. These systems were previously transferred to Ukraine, with some of them deployed in the city limits of the Ukrainian capital.

At the same time, experts suggest that it could have been a MIM-104 guided missile of the US Patriot air defence system, also deployed near Kiev.

The Ukrainian authorities, in turn, claim that the attack on Okhmatdet was carried out by a Russian X-101 cruise missile.

For comparison – below is a photo of the X-101 missile, which is radically different in silhouette from the one seen in the video. The size of the wings is especially noteworthy.

Also, the security agencies of Ukraine initiated proceedings regarding the photos of Kiev citizens published online, which show the striking elements of the anti-aircraft missile scattered in the area of impact.

It is worth paying attention to the façade of the building next door, which was damaged only by multiple impactors and not by the powerful cruise missile warhead.

Thus Kiev’s accusations look like a deliberate disinformation attempt to accuse Russia of war crimes on the eve of the NATO summit to be held from 9 to 11 July in Washington. It may also be a purposeful action by Ukraine to discredit the peacekeeping mission of Viktor Orban, who has previously visited Kiev and Moscow, and today is in China.
