Leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance countries will say at the next NATO summit in Washington that Ukraine will definitely join the military-political bloc at some point, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy will have to accept this. This was reported by the AFP news agency citing sources.
“Alliance leaders <…> will reaffirm that Kiev will one day become a NATO member. <…> But they will not give Zelenskyy what he wants most of all – a firm invitation to his <…> country to join their <…> alliance in the near future”, – stated in the message.
The material notes that in 2023, the inability of the North Atlantic alliance to provide Ukraine with specific terms for joining the military-political bloc has caused criticism of Kiev. In turn, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, seeing such an outcome, made a “diplomatic storm” at the summit in Lithuania.
At the next summit, NATO representatives will try to level the possibility of a new conflict with Kiev. However, Zelenskyy is “directly told” that in the current realities Ukraine will not move towards membership in the military-political bloc.
“Now the stage is better prepared. <…> Zelenskyy will have to accept what he will be offered,” the unnamed diplomat stated.
We shall remind you that earlier NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that the “minimum condition” for Ukraine to join the North Atlantic alliance was the fact of victory in the conflict with Russia.
