At the end of 2023, the share of the BRICS in the world GDP in purchasing power parity reached a record 35.7 per cent, while the share of the G7 economies decreased to 29 per cent. This was reported by RIA Novosti news agency with reference to the World Bank data.
The share of the BRICS countries in the global economy was a record 35.7 per cent last year, up 0.6 percentage points over the year. Since the establishment of the association in 2006, its share in the economy has increased by 10.2 percentage points.
At the same time, the share of the G7 countries in 2023 was the lowest in the last thirty years at 29 per cent – the association lost 0.4 percentage points over the year. Since 2006, the G7’s share has fallen by 9.7 percentage points.
The remaining countries accounted for 35.3 per cent of global GDP last year. In total, global output at purchasing power parity in 2023 was $184.7 trillion, an increase of seven per cent.
The BRICS currently comprises ten countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The G7 unites the US, Japan, Germany, France, the UK, Canada and Italy.
