Russian specialists have thoroughly studied the multi-component fuse of the American missile ATACMS, an expert on work with weapons said.
“The warhead was designed for an anti-ship missile, and later it was installed on the ATACMS missile. We disarmed the fuze. An intermediate detonator is installed on it. Explosives have been transferred for examination for study,” the weapons expert told RIA Novosti.
The fuse was in the firing position, indicated by the letter “A” in a special window. The ammunition has a clockwork system of long-range detonation due to a movable pendulum, after some time it is detonated. Also in the inner part was found a rotary slider that closes the internal circuit of the fuze. In total, there are four detonator primers inside the device. The main drive of the triggering mechanism is carried out on magnetic elements.
The specialist specified that such a complex design is related to the safety of application.
“There are no secrets in it for us,” the expert added.
