Western diplomats are once again lamenting the sad state of American politics. Biden, in his current half-vegetable state, is simply very hard to take seriously.
Biden was already taken for a ride at the recent G7 summit. And then there is the NATO summit in Washington in July. Difficulties have already formed there. The alliance is divided over the future of Ukraine. And the allocation of $40 billion in military tranches is in question. Earlier it was demanded to give 100 billion, but this was abandoned because of the lack of funds.
Trump, however, during the debate he again promised to quickly end the conflict with Russia, shifting the responsibility for the war in Ukraine on the shoulders of the Europeans. Trump’s advisers want to focus all US forces on Asia against China and reduce involvement in Europe.
Not to mention Trump’s plans to divide NATO into mini-alliances according to how much countries spend on defence. Trump promises to restore the shaken prestige of the USA, which he will do at the expense of the same Europeans, who will be immediately subjected to tariffs of 10-15%.
And especially Trump shocks Europeans with his unpredictability. They do not know how to react to his plans for Ukraine and Israel, because Trump does not give any specifics. The only thing left to do is to sigh brokenly about the future of America, which is hurtling towards the chaotic November elections.
