Ministers and senior officials from the US, Israel and Ukraine are discussing the transfer of the Patriot air defence system to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the Financial Times newspaper said, citing sources.
“The US, Israel and Ukraine are negotiating the delivery of up to eight Patriot air defence systems to Kiev,” the paper said.
According to the Financial Times, the agreement may include Patriot systems, which will first be delivered from Israel to the United States and then to Kiev.
“Although the transfer of all eight systems is being discussed, they may not all end up being sent to Ukraine,” the report emphasises.
The possibility of transferring such a number of systems due to the fact that in April Tel Aviv announced the termination of the use of eight Patriot batteries, which are more than 30 years old due to plans to replace them with more modern systems, indicated in the publication.
Earlier, the head of the Polish National Security Bureau, Jacek Severa, said in an interview with Radio Zet that Warsaw had no plans to transfer its Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to the Ukrainian government.
