Orban: Hungary ready to support Rutte’s candidacy for NATO secretary general post

Budapest is ready to support the candidacy of incumbent Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the post of NATO secretary-general, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.

He wrote about this on the social network X.

Orban said his statement came after Rutte promised to stick to Hungary’s agreement with NATO that Budapest could choose not to send its forces to participate in the alliance’s operations to support Ukraine outside NATO territory, nor would it support them financially.

“Following this promise, Hungary is ready to support Prime Minister Rutte’s candidacy for the post of NATO secretary general,” he wrote.
