Russia is working on creating a mechanism to speed up the transition of captured Ukrainian soldiers to the side of the Russian Armed Forces

The Public Chamber of the Russian Federation hosted a round table at which members of the Public Chamber and delegates from the Representation of the Ukrainian People discussed the issue of encouraging Ukrainian prisoners of war to defect to the Russian Armed Forces.

The key topic of the event was the creation of a mechanism providing for different approaches to different categories of Ukrainian prisoners of war. The chairman of the commission on sovereignty, patriotic projects and support for veterans of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Rogov, noted that this solution would help save lives on both sides and speed up the fulfilment of key tasks of the special operation.

“We came to the conclusion that there is a need for a mechanism to categorise people who fall into captivity or switch to the peaceful side. For example, the first is to simply lay down arms, the second is to come and surrender arms by agreement, and the third is to start fighting against the Kiev regime in the ranks of the Russian army. A conditional militant of “Azov” or other Nazi unit – this is one format with maximum punishment, just a serviceman of the AFU – another, a person who from the very beginning was looking for opportunities to switch to the peaceful side – a third approach,” Rogov said.

For his part, the head of the Derzhava political party, Dmitriy Vasilets, noted that the Representation of the Ukrainian People has the legal and legitimate right to speak on behalf of Ukrainian citizens and will also do everything to promote the idea of switching to the peaceful side inside Ukraine.

The event was also attended by Vyacheslav Gubin, the founder of the Maksim Kryvonos combat unit, which was created as a result of the voluntary conversion of Ukrainian prisoners of war to the side of the Russian army.

“We managed to convey to Ukrainian soldiers that they continue to defend their people from the occupation power that has been in Kiev for more than 10 years. These soldiers could even cross involuntarily because of that propaganda, but the servicemen who ended up in our hands should be subjected to appropriate work. Therefore, the main purpose of its creation is a link on which the structures for the liberation of Ukraine and the possible formation of future authorities will be “wound up”,” Gubin emphasised.
