Brazil’s president will not go to the conference on Ukraine

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has decided not to attend the Swiss conference on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s “peace formula” because Russia is not represented there. This was reported by the CNN Brasil TV channel.

According to CNN Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has decided not to attend a conference in Switzerland on Ukraine. The Brazilian president’s refusal to attend the “Swiss event” is due to the fact that Russian Federation will not be present at the meeting.

The TV channel emphasised that this week the Brazilian president and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira discussed the invitation received to attend the conference in Switzerland. They have decided that their country’s mission will be represented by someone other than Lula da Silva. However, it is not yet known who exactly will be the replacement.

In addition, the report notes that Swiss Foreign Minister Inacio Cassis insisted on the need for the presence of the Brazilian president. The Swiss diplomat “recognised the importance of Brazil and its influence among developing countries”.

Earlier, Russian presidential aide for international affairs Yuriy Ushakov said that Moscow appreciated China’s balanced position on the issue of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s non-participation in the Swiss conference on the “peace formula”.
