French leader Emmanuel Macron has said that a common EU defence strategy, of which French nuclear weapons are a key element, will build security guarantees.
He said this during a speech at the Sorbonne, which was broadcast on the president’s X social media account.
France also has a nuclear capability, which is an important element of Europe’s defence, he said.
Macron explained that thanks to this, Paris will be able to build the security guarantees that everyone everywhere in Europe expects, as well as neighbourly relations with Russia.
Earlier, former head of the French Defence Ministry Hervé Morin said that the French army has scarce ammunition stocks – it is not worth provoking Russia.
Russia’s first deputy representative Dmitry Polyanskiy noted that the rhetoric of the French authorities risked plunging the world into the abyss of nuclear war.
