French politician and leader of the Patriots party Florian Philippot has said a number of European Union countries are unwilling to seize Russian assets, but he believes they may bow to EU pressure.

“There are countries in the EU that will not want to do this, but it is not known whether they will bend, because they often have to do it amid threats and blackmail from the EU, which is now extremely authoritarian,” he told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, he added that the confiscation of Russian assets would affect the US to a lesser extent, as there are fewer of them on US territory than in Europe.

“The volume of Russian assets on their territory is only $5bn, while in European countries they total $250bn,” he stressed.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the US bill on the seizure of Russian assets will be the subject of legal proceedings.
