WP: Trump says he could force Ukraine to cede Crimea and Donbass
Former US President Donald Trump privately stated that he could put an end to the conflict in Ukraine by putting pressure on Kiev to leave Crimea and Donbass for Russia, the US newspaper Washington Post writes, citing sources.
“Former US President Donald Trump has privately said he could end Russia’s war in Ukraine by putting pressure on Ukraine to give up some territory…. Trump’s proposal is to force Ukraine to cede Crimea and the bordering Donbass to Russia,” the publication writes, citing sources.
Trump repeatedly during his presidential campaign promised to resolve the situation around Ukraine by winning the election. According to the politician, he will do this even before the inauguration.
Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its goal “to protect people who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” He noted that the special operation was a forced measure, Russia was “left with no chance to do otherwise, the security risks created were such that it was impossible to react by other means.”
