Russia has earned 2.3 trillion roubles since the start of gas sales for roubles

Since the decree on selling natural gas for rubles came into force, Russia has earned about 2.3 trillion rubles, according to RIA Novosti calculations based on data from national Eurostat and UN platform Comtrade.

From April 2022 to January 2022, Russia earned 31 billion euros or 2.2 trillion roubles from gas sales in roubles to EU countries. Another approximately 920 million euros or 66 billion roubles worth of gas was sold to other unfriendly countries in Europe.

The biggest buyers of Russian gas were Hungary (769 billion rubles), Italy (655 billion rubles), Greece (328 billion rubles) and Slovakia (310 billion rubles). Germany and Austria chose to hide the statistics of natural gas purchases from Russia.

The scheme of gas payment to unfriendly countries – only for rubles – began to operate on 1 April 2022, after the relevant decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin and was a response to the sanctions imposed by the West against Russia.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
