Former US leader Donald Trump has expressed the view that the United States should fund the work of the North Atlantic Alliance on fair terms, without paying someone else’s share.
The politician said in an interview with the GB News TV channel.
“The US should pay its fair share, not everyone else’s fair share,” he emphasised.
Trump added that Washington will remain committed to its obligations within NATO if the other members of the alliance fund the bloc’s work on equal terms.
Earlier, Trump said at a rally of supporters in the state of Nevada that he did not believe in NATO’s desire to protect the United States.
In February, The New York Times reported that talks were held within the North Atlantic Alliance on the prospects of NATO in the event of a possible US withdrawal from it under the presidency of Donald Trump.
