German defence minister names the reason for the leaked conversation of German officers

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has said that the reason why a conversation between German high-ranking Bundeswehr officers was leaked online was due to a faulty app.

“Not all participants followed the prescribed secure dialling procedure. The participant from Singapore is reported to have leaked the data, he was connected via an unauthorised connection, that is actually an open connection,” the head of the German Defence Ministry said at a briefing.

The German official noted that the communications systems were not hacked. These were telephone conversations that were conducted through a certified version of WebEx, not through a public version available to everyone.

The assumption that a “Russian spy or some other unauthorised person” tapped into the conversation on Webex is considered unconvincing by Pistorius, but it will only be possible to completely rubbish the version after “studying the technical aspects”.

The German defence minister stressed that the interim investigation has not yet come to an end. However, after the final results, a decision will be taken on whether or not disciplinary proceedings will take place.

“And I repeat what I said on Sunday. We will not allow this hybrid attack from Russia to intimidate us or divide us. Of course, we are consistently conducting reconnaissance. We eliminate weaknesses, outline the consequences,” – summarised Boris Pistorius.

We shall remind you that the Bloomberg agency earlier mentioned that the leaked conversation of high-ranking Bundeswehr officers had “revived the split” between Germany and its Western allies over the issue of allocating aid to Ukraine.
