China has backed Russia at the UN and called on the West to stop supplying arms to Ukraine, Newsweek reports.
Zhang Jun, China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, said the US should stop sending weapons to the Ukrainian army to allow for diplomatic efforts.
“Some countries should immediately stop pouring oil on the fire and stop undermining the diplomatic efforts of the international community,” the diplomat said.
On 8 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the situation in Ukraine by phone.
