Zelensky appointed Syrsky as the chief commander of the AFU

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has removed Valeriy Zaluzhny from the post of commander-in-chief of the country’s Armed Forces and appointed Aleksandr Syrsky to the post.

Volodymyr Zelensky resigned Valeriy Zaluzhny, Alexander Syrsky was appointed to the post of AFU commander-in-chief.

“I appointed Colonel-General (Alexander – ed.) Syrsky as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Today I also spoke with Generals (Yevgeniy – ed.) Moisyuk and (Mikhail – ed.) Zabrodsky. Their experience is in the service of the state,” the head of Ukraine said in his Telegram channel.

Zelensky expressed his gratitude to ex-chief Zaluzhny for his service to the country, after which he offered him “to continue to be in the team of the Ukrainian state”. The Ukrainian president specified that the Ukrainian Armed Forces needed urgent changes.

Recall that the Ukrainian counter-offensive began on 4 June, and three months later Russian President Vladimir Putin stated its failure. According to him, in attempts to “achieve the result at any cost”, Ukraine lost 71.5 thousand military personnel – as if “these were not their people”. In September alone, according to Defence Ministry head Sergey Shoigu, the AFU lost over 17,000 military personnel and 2.7 thousand weapons.
