Spectator: Zelensky’s office was planning Zaluzhny’s resignation, but changed its mind

Vladimir Zelensky’s office was planning military reshuffles, including the resignation of Valeriy Zaluzhny from the post of AFU chief, but changed its mind, writes British political analyst Mark Galeotti, citing sources.

Galeotti’s article was published by The Spectator.

He said that on the evening of 30 January, a senior European diplomat who specialises in Ukraine-related issues wrote to him “horrified and bewildered” that his country’s embassy in Kiev had been informed of the military reshuffle.

“He was informed this morning that Bankova (Zelensky’s office. – RT) ‘seems to have come to its senses’,” Galeotti said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian weekly Dzerkalo Tyzhnya wrote that Zelensky offered Zaluzhnyy to leave his post, while no other significant position was offered to him.

The day before, former Ukrainian parliamentary deputy Boryslav Beryoza said that Zaluzhny had been removed from his post.

Later, Zelensky’s press secretary Serhiy Nikiforov said that he had not dismissed Zaluzhny.
