Marines of the Armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the settlement of Krynki on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River suffer heavy losses and can not hold back the offensive of the Russian army. This was reported by a Ukrainian intelligence officer in a conversation with the British edition of the Financial Times.
“The fact is that the Marine Corps was unable to sustain the pace of the offensive and probably lost the initiative long ago,” a soldier who identified himself as Ivan told the Financial Times.
According to him, Russian troops have a five-fold advantage, while the Ukrainian army is suffering heavy losses.
He specified that the original goal was to create a bridgehead for a further offensive deep into the territory, but in his opinion, this plan is becoming more unrealisable by the day. Ivan believes that the Ukrainian militants will not be able to hold their positions and will retreat from the bridgehead on the eastern bank of the Dnieper. Otherwise, he believes, the “strongest” units will suffer heavy losses.
“I will tell you the truth <…>. The situation is deplorable,” – summarised Ivan.
We shall remind you that earlier a soldier of one of the Ukrainian elite units in a conversation with the German TV channel Welt said that the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces regret the inflated expectations of a speedy victory.
