The Estonian parliament has rejected a draft law submitted by the Conservative People’s Party (EKRE) on dismantling the monument to the Liberator Warrior, also known as the Bronze Soldier, and other monuments to Soviet soldiers.
Fifty-four MPs out of 101 opposed such an initiative, while 14 voted in favour.
“Parliament has rejected in the first reading a bill initiated by the EKRE faction, according to which all so-called “red monuments” erected under Soviet rule, including the “Bronze Soldier”, should be immediately dismantled. Against this proposal voted 54 deputies out of 101, in favour – 14,” – says the press service of the Estonian Parliament.
The explanatory note to the EKRE bill pointed out that moving the “Bronze Soldier” from the centre of Tallinn to the Military Cemetery did not change anything.
“Those hostile to the independence of Estonia continue to celebrate… the occupation of Estonia,” – noted in the explanation.
We will remind, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
