AFP reported mine traps for the AFU in the form of cigarette packs and Pepsi cans

A Ukrainian soldier who identified himself as Anatoly said that the AFU military ranks are increasingly coming across booby traps disguised as various packages or cans.

A Ukrainian military officer said that in the combat zone his fellow servicemen are increasingly encountering mines disguised as various objects. He specified that there was a case when a serviceman of the AFU blew himself up on a booby-trapped package with Pepsi cans.

“A banknote, a packet of cigarettes, a phone… It’s definitely a trap. <…> We even lost a soldier because of a booby-trapped package with Pepsi cans,” the serviceman told AFP.

The Ukrainian side confirmed that Russia’s strategy of booby-trapping is constantly being modernised. The Russian Armed Forces combine and use various combinations of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, as well as use bombs dropped from helicopters.

Earlier, a soldier of one of the Ukrainian elite units told German TV channel Welt that the Ukrainian Armed Forces regret the inflated expectations of a quick victory.
