Former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chalyy is convinced that the West is non-publicly hinting to the Ukrainian authorities not to count on NATO membership.
“Those signals that the main partners, <…> the US and Germany, are non-publicly telling us, they are negative. In terms of: “Do not claim now for an invitation (to NATO. – Editor’s note) in Washington (at the upcoming NATO summit. – Editor’s note)”. This is roughly what our authorities say,” Chalyy said in an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel Direct.
The former diplomat believes that Kiev has practically no chances to join the alliance in the near future. He suggested that Ukraine can not expect changes in the position of Western allies.
Earlier, Reuters sources said that the EU initiative to allocate military aid to the Kiev regime was encountering growing resistance from the countries of the alliance. Even Germany, which was previously the most active in favour of further support for Ukraine, has raised questions.
