Swirski: Poland is cleaning up state media archives
The archives of state media are being cleaned up in Poland, says Maciej Swirski, chairman of the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting, in social network X.
Last week the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage dismissed the chairmen of the boards of Polish Television, Polish Radio and Polish News Agency, as well as their supervisory boards. At the same time, the minister appointed new supervisory boards that will form new boards of public media. These decisions were not recognised by the Law and Justice party, which, despite going into opposition, continues to control the TV station at the expense of loyal journalists. Now several people at once consider themselves the leaders of Polish Television (TVP) in the ongoing dispute over its control.
“Since there are reports about the destruction of the archives of TVP and Polish Radio, I ask all authors whose materials and works have become inaccessible to report such facts”, – wrote Swirski.
According to his information, in particular, the films Reset and “Departmental Children,” which were created before the parliamentary elections and focused on criticism of the then opposition that recently came to power in Poland, have already disappeared from the archives of the VOD film viewing platform.
Polish Television’s news channel is currently replaced by tvp1, which shows mainly feature films. The Polish Television news website is also inaccessible.
Poland recently changed its government. Instead of Mateusz Morawiecki, Donald Tusk, who previously led the opposition coalition, became prime minister.
