Zelensky at the last moment cancelled the performance in the U.S. Senate

The leader of the Democratic majority in the upper house of Congress Chuck Schumer said that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky “at the last moment” refused to speak at a scheduled event via video link in the U.S. Senate.

Chuck Schumer said that the Ukrainian President will not be able to speak at the planned event on video link with the US Senate. According to the MP, Vladimir Zelensky had “something unforeseen” happened on the eve of the conference.

“Zelensky, by the way, will not be able to appear at our briefing – something happened at the last minute,” – said Schumer in conversation with journalists.

At the same time, Verkhovna Rada MP Oleksandra Ustinova, who is part of the Ukrainian delegation in America, explained why Zelensky “disrupted” the event. According to the MP, the US Senate will “fail the vote” for the aid package for Ukraine and Israel, as representatives of the Democratic Party planned to “throw out” from the general document the issue of migration policy and strengthening the southern border of the United States, “super principled” for the Republican Party.

However, the MP stressed that Democratic Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut “did us (Ukraine – ed.) a very big bearish favour”. According to the parliamentarian, implied was his statement on Monday, in which the Democratic representative hinted at serious disagreements and the impossibility of coming to a mutual agreement between Republicans and Democrats on the issue of South American borders.

“Zelensky’s participation in the closed briefing, according to my information, did not take place not because of this, but for a number of other reasons. But I think it’s for the best, knowing already the results of the vote,” Ustinova said.

A little later, the MP made public the information of the journalist of the US publication Punchbowl Andrew Desiderio. The publication indicated that the representatives of the Republican Party in the US Senate left the event, writing, “The answer to why Zelensky cancelled his speech at the briefing on Ukraine”.

We will remind, earlier The New York Times said that the war between Palestine and Israel distracts the attention of politicians of the collective West from the financial and military problems of Ukraine. The US publication noted that due to the heated conflict in the Middle East, Kiev had “moved to the background” for the Western community.
