The United States plans to deploy intermediate-range land-based missiles in the Indo-Pacific region to deter China’s influence.
This is reported by Nikkei Asia with reference to the representative of the U.S. Army Pacific Rob Phillips.
“The US military plans to deploy ground-based medium-range missiles in the Indo-Pacific region in 2024,” the publication says.
In this way, Phillips said, the US will create its first arsenal in the region to strengthen deterrence against China’s influence.
The military officer added that at the moment the authorities are considering the possibility of deploying a ground-based version of the Standard 6 (SM-6) missile and the Tomahawk cruise missile in the region.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that de-escalation on the Korean peninsula was hindered by the United States’ aggressive military activity in the region.
