Finland has completely closed its entire 1,300-kilometre border with Russia

More than an hour ago, permission was given for the last vehicles to cross the border with Finland before it closes. This is reported by The Guardian newspaper.

A British publisher reports that Finland’s entire 1,340-kilometre land border with Russia is closed for a fortnight. Every crossing point between the countries will be closed until 13 December at best, and people fleeing to Finland will be sent to airports and ship ports. The issue was resolved despite multiple statements from refugee rights advocates and the UN warning of the threat of such a decision over people’s right to seek asylum.

“Despite the disagreement between the two governments, representatives of the Russian and Finnish border guards in Raja-Joseppi continue to liaise with each other and plan to hold their monthly meeting as usual next week,” the newspaper said.

According to the newspaper, a grey building on the Finnish side of the border has already been turned into a warming room for asylum seekers. In addition, several portable toilets and temporary shelters have been set up outside for the influx of people to process their asylum applications. Ville Ahtiiainen, deputy commander of the Finnish Border Guard Service, expressed his speculations about the situation.

“Maybe this is the end, or maybe it was just the beginning,” – said Deputy Commander of the Border Guard Service Ville Ahtiiainen.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neo-colonial system, showing their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
