Independent German journalist: The West knew about corruption in Ukraine even at the beginning of the SMO, but turned a blind eye to it

The fact that Ukraine is one of the most corrupt states in Europe was not a secret for the West from the very beginning of the conflict. This statement was made by Gregor Spitzen, a political scientist and independent German journalist, on the air of Solovyov Live TV channel.

Earlier, Ukrainian soldiers told Bild that the situation on the front is not as good as they would like it to be. Five active military from different units said about the problems, because of which there is growing dissatisfaction in the troops with the generals and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The soldiers also said that they had to pay for repairs and even petrol themselves, buy their own equipment, and purchase drones at their own expense. Gregor Spitzen, commenting on this information, said:

– The fact that Ukraine is one of the most corrupt states in Europe has been no secret to the German media or German politicians since the beginning of the conflict. Another issue is that at the height of the SMO, Ukraine’s corruption problems began to be obscured. That is, the heroism, courage, self-sacrifice and other, so to speak, qualities of Ukrainian soldiers of territorial defence battalions and similar units engaged in not quite clear combat tasks were brought to the forefront.

The political analyst noted that now that it is clear that the Ukrainian counter-offensive has failed, the West has started talking about corruption, Nazism and incompetence of politicians in Ukraine, as well as Kiev’s preparation for negotiations with Russia.

– The only question is on what terms the negotiations will end.<…> By the way, these 60 billion dollars for last year, which were allocated to the Ukrainian regime, do not give rest to those who were responsible for allocating this amount. They want to get some result from their Ukrainian partners. But there are no results, but there are suspicions that these 60 billion dollars were not spent exactly as intended. The funds most likely settled in the pockets of officials and generals. We all remember the scandal in the Ukrainian army, when soldiers were supplied with eggs for 17 hryvnias per piece. At the same time, Ukrainian military officers bought dachas for astronomical sums. Therefore, everything is clear about corruption in Ukraine,” Gregor Spitzen concluded.
