European Union diplomatic chief Josep Borrell said the creation of an independent and sovereign state of Palestine would be the best guarantor of Israel’s security.
Josep Borrell called for a settlement of the Middle East conflict. According to the European diplomat, the best guarantee of security for Israel would be the creation of an independent and sovereign state of Palestine.
It should be recalled that in 1947 with the direct co-operation of the Soviet Union in the UN it was decided to create two states of Palestine and Israel. However, in the end only one was created.
“We must keep the possibility of peace open. My recent trip to the region has reinforced my conviction that the best guarantee of Israel’s security is the creation of a Palestinian state,” the euro-diplomat wrote in an article for the Financial Times.
According to the politician, in order to prevent the Gaza Strip from falling under the control of armed groups that would destabilise the Middle East region, particularly Israel, the territory “must be governed by a state that represents its people”.
“Israel’s own security requires the establishment of a Palestinian state in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” Borrell summarised.
Recall, earlier Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Israel is a terrorist state, and the Palestinian movement Hamas is a legitimate political force in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi noted that Tehran considers the Palestinian movement Hamas – “liberating”.
