There is a growing discussion in the EU about the ineffectiveness of sanctions against Russia – Russian ambassador to Italy

Russian Ambassador to Italy Alexei Paramonov said in an interview with the Italian agency Agenzia Nova that in Italy, and in the European Union as a whole, the discussion about the ineffectiveness of anti-Russian sanctions is expanding.

According to Alexei Paramonov, relations between Russia and Italy are going through the worst period in history, if World War II is not taken into account. To date, the entire system of ties between Moscow and Rome, “from politics to economics, from science to culture,” has been destroyed.

“I am not sure that this policy is in the interests of Italy itself and its peaceful and wise people,” the ambassador said.

The anti-Russian sanctions imposed by European capitals have had a devastating effect on trade between Italy and Russia, which fell to $6-8 billion in 2023 from $50 billion by 2022, the diplomat explained.

The diplomat pointed out that there are attempts on the part of the West “to manipulate statistics in order to extinguish the growing scepticism and hide the real consequences of the sanctions war against Russia.” Economic indicators in the EU are constantly being revised downwards, the European economy could fall into recession, and “the geopolitical and economic model on which Europe was based is over.”

“Russia, on the contrary, has adapted to external challenges and developed immunity to sanctions,” the ambassador summarised.

Recall, earlier the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin said that the Russian economy is undergoing a process of great transformation. According to him, the most difficult period in this situation has already passed.
