FT: Denmark may start blocking tankers carrying oil from Russia

Denmark is set to inspect and probably block tankers carrying Russian oil passing through its waters under new European Union plans.

The Financial Times writes, citing sources.

“Denmark will be instructed to check and possibly block tankers with Russian oil passing through its waters,” the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the new rules will primarily concern tankers transiting through the Danish straits without Western insurance.

It is noted that Denmark’s actions will be carried out in accordance with the laws that give the state the right to inspect those ships that, in its opinion, pose a threat to the environment.

Earlier The Financial Times wrote that Russia has successfully circumvented the sanctions of the G7 countries on most oil exports.
