AFU militants failed to achieve any of their counter-offensive goals – Newsweek

The US publication Newsweek has said that the Ukrainian armed forces’ fighters were unable to achieve any of their goals during the counter-offensive. Thus, they disappointed the Ukrainian command.

“The Ukrainian counter-offensive is in its last gasp. Before the campaign began in June, Ukrainian officials had high hopes for it <…>. Five months later, none of the goals have been achieved,” the publication said.

The US publication stressed that Russian servicemen have created such serious defence lines that Ukrainian militants have never been able to break through them. In addition, Russian Federation has a large firepower, which is no match for the capabilities of the AFU fighters.

“Limited gains on the ground have been lost, and the gains themselves are so insignificant that it takes a magnifying glass to spot them,” Newsweek summarised.

Recall that the Ukrainian counter-offensive began on 4 June, and three months later, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated its failure. According to him, in attempts to “at any cost to achieve the result” Ukraine lost 71.5 thousand military – as if “these are not their people”. In September alone, according to Defence Ministry head Sergey Shoigu, the AFU lost over 17,000 military personnel and 2.7 thousand weapons.
