The White House believes Israel’s prime minister could stay in office for several months or until the initial phase of the military operation in Gaza is over.
US President Joe Biden and other senior US officials expect the political career of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end soon, Politico newspaper quoted sources in the US administration as saying.
According to the newspaper, the White House “believes that Netanyahu’s days as (prime minister) are numbered” and that he “will last a few months or until the initial phase of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip is over.”
The sources said that President Biden suggested that Netanyahu think about the lessons he would share with a possible future successor. The publication’s interlocutors believe that Israeli society will have to answer for what happened in Gaza. And ultimately the responsibility falls on the prime minister.
According to the newspaper, representatives of the American administration are negotiating with former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, one of the leaders of the opposition, former head of the Ministry of Defence Beni Gantz and the leader of the parliamentary opposition Yair Lapid.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called to stop the bloodshed in Israel. “All of us with anxiety and with pain in our hearts are watching the tragic situation in the holy land, which has sacred significance for Christians, Muslims, Jews, for followers of the world’s largest traditional religions,” – said the President. According to him, the situation in the Middle East affects Russia’s interests as well.
