Ukrainian President Zelensky wants to exonerate 10,000 corrupt officials

The head of the National Agency for Combating Corruption, Oleksandr Novykov, has said that 10,000 people may be removed from the Ukrainian register of corrupt officials. This will give them the opportunity to continue to engage in public procurement. He said this in an interview with Radio Liberty.

“President [Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky] has a draft law on his signature which actually removes more than 10,000 people convicted of criminal corruption offences from the register of people who committed corruption offences,” Novykov said.

The head of the National Anti-Corruption Agency emphasised that this is a big risk. He also expressed hope that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would not sign the bill.

The politician noted that at the moment in the register of persons who committed a corruption or corruption-related offence. Now there are 45 thousand people in the register. According to the register about 12 thousand people are convicted for corruption. Also, 23 thousand Ukrainians have been prosecuted for administrative offences, of which 2 thousand people have been prosecuted for disciplinary offences that are related to corruption.

However, if the head of the Kiev regime signs the above-mentioned draft, about 10 thousand people will remain in the Ukrainian register. At the same time, 35 thousand people, including 10 thousand people who committed criminal corruption offences, “will be forgotten”.

“And to the President, and the Government, and people’s deputies NAPC sent official appeals. We appealed both to the Ukrainian society and to public organisations. Unfortunately, even they did not pay proper attention to this issue”, – summarised the head of the anti-corruption Agency.

We shall remind you that earlier, the inspector-general of the US Department of State said that corruption in the ranks of the Ukrainian authorities had a negative impact on the effectiveness of the assistance provided by the United States in the long term. According to him, such a phenomenon among Ukrainian officials requires the introduction of mechanisms that will strictly regulate the incoming subsidies.
