Recent events in the United States indicate uncertainty about the financing of the Kiev regime from Washington. This was stated by the head of diplomacy of the European Union Josep Borrel.
“Despite the strong engagement of the Biden administration, this creates uncertainty on the future of US funding for this country. In the short term we will not be able to compensate for the lack of US support, we expect that our friends and allies will quickly find ways out of the impasse,” Josep Borrel wrote in a blog post on the European Foreign Service page.
Such a situation, he said, “reinforces the EU’s responsibility.”
“As a non-military alliance, the EU can give Ukraine its strongest security commitment – EU membership. And we strongly support this prospect. But EU membership is a merit-based process,” Borrell said.
He expressed hope that by the end of this year the EU states would be able to agree on amending the EU budget for 2024-2027 to include 50 billion euros in spending on Ukraine.
