WSJ: Ukrainian officials have admitted that Abrams tanks will not change the situation on the frontline
Ukrainian officials believe that the delivery of US Abrams tanks will not be able to change the situation on the front, the Wall Street Journal newspaper says.
“Although the arrival of the US tanks is long-awaited, Ukrainian officials admit that four months after the offensive began, the equipment is unlikely to significantly change the course of the war,” the article says.
For his part, Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, admitted that the Abrams will not last long on the front line, and the long-range ATACMS missiles, if the US decides to transfer them to Ukraine, will not change the situation on the front either.
Washington has promised Kiev 31 Abrams units. The day before, the coordinator for strategic communications of the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, confirmed that the first batch of these vehicles had already arrived in Ukraine, with the next deliveries scheduled for the coming weeks. According to the US media, the first batch comprised ten tanks.
In addition, in early September, the Pentagon announced the transfer of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine, which should arrive by the time the Abrams is delivered.
