Armenian police said that 142 people have been detained in the capital Yerevan at protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and an end to the policy of betraying national interests. This was reported by Interfax.
Since the early morning of Monday, 25 September, Armenia’s opposition has begun blocking streets in six of Yerevan’s nine administrative districts. This is taking place as part of civil dissent actions aimed at the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister is accused of betraying Armenia’s national interests following the successful military operation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, which ended in a complete military defeat for the unrecognised republic amid the inaction of the Armenian government.
Actions of civil disobedience are shown live in the Armenian media. The protests are led by current and former opposition members of the republic’s parliament. The opposition National Committee claims that Armenian MP Tadevos Avstyan is among those detained.
Recall that earlier Armenian law enforcement agencies arrested 26 people for offences during the protests in Yerevan. The Investigative Committee of Armenia reported that 26 people have been detained by the law enforcement bodies of the country since the beginning of the rallies and protests in Yerevan. According to the agency, criminal cases have been opened against 49 people.
