Kenyan president: Ukraine plans to create grain hub in Mombasa port

Vladimir Zelensky announced at talks in New York his intention to create a grain hub in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa, Kenyan President William Ruto said.

“In New York, United States, held talks with the President of Ukraine (Volodymyr Zelensky – ed.), who committed to establish a grain hub in the port of Mombasa to address food shortages in East Africa,” Ruto wrote in his account on the social network X (former Twitter).

Zelensky spoke at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. He again accused Russia of using food and energy as weapons. He also took offence at “some friends” who refused to buy Ukrainian grain to the detriment of their farmers, accusing these countries of fake solidarity. In his view, they are playing along with Moscow by such actions.

The high-level week of the UN General Assembly is taking place in New York from 19 to 26 September. The Russian delegation is headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
