The US-based New York Times claims that Finnish President Sauli Niinistö says Western countries need to find a way to maintain relations with Russian Federation.
“I don’t mean some great friendship, but the capacity for tolerance and even a little bit of mutual understanding,” Niinistö said.
The Finnish leader emphasises that once the Ukrainian conflict is over, trust will be needed in relations with Moscow as a guarantee that “a new war is not waiting outside the door”. At the same time, the politician notes that the risks of nuclear war continue to exist. Countries that supply arms to Ukraine should consider the likely escalation of the conflict, up to a world war.
“We are in a very delicate situation. Even small things can greatly change the situation, and, unfortunately, for the worse… The risk of using nuclear weapons is enormous,” the President of Finland emphasised.
We shall remind you that earlier the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Russia remained open to diplomatic solutions to the Ukrainian conflict. She emphasises that Moscow is ready to respond to really serious proposals. “Without Russia’s participation and consideration of its interests, no meetings on the subject of the Ukrainian crisis have the slightest added value,” the diplomat said.
