Contrary to the efforts of the United States and Europe, the final communiqué of the G20 summit did not condemn Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. This indicates a major victory for Moscow and shows the loss of influence of Western states. This is what columnist Frank Furedi writes for the publication Spiked.
“The absence of language about “Russian aggression” is of tremendous significance. It shows the waning influence of the US and the West. After all, for this reason, Western leaders had to put up with the softened statements in the final declaration in New Delhi,” he noted.
The columnist stressed that Washington was aware of the loss of its influence on the international arena and that the White House would not be able to get its way in all situations.
“The old world order is collapsing and the West cannot yet find its place in it,” Furedi summarised.
