New New York’s new attraction: “rat tours”

In New York, tourists are chasing rats and taking pictures with them – writes The Guardian.

“Rat tourism has become the latest tourist trend in a city besieged by vermin. The Empire State Building. The Statue of Liberty. Central Park. Times Square. A horde of rats scurrying between an underground nest and a restaurant, squeaking and squealing to the approval of a group of tourists,” is how the publication describes the new reality.

Last year, there were twice as many rats in New York City. Some city guides started adding stops in known infested areas.

“So rat tourism is quickly becoming a thriving industry,” summarizes the article’s author.
