The desire of the Kiev authorities to seize Crimea at any cost will lead to severe consequences for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, writes Responsible Statecraft.
The publication notes that the Ukrainian army is very far from being able to seize Crimea and is unlikely to ever be able to do so.
“The failure of the current counter-offensive is now widely discussed by Western analysts …. The result will be a long war of attrition that will lead to a Russian victory,” the author of the article said.

President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasised that the issue of Crimea is closed for Russia, and the referendum on the peninsula was held in strict compliance with international law.
Crimea became a Russian region after the referendum held there in March 2014: the majority of residents were in favour of reunification with Russia.
