The Serbian Embassy in Berlin protests against the statement of author Muammar Becirovic in the online edition of Berliner Zeitung that Germany should foment unrest in Serbia. This is reported by the Serbian edition of Pravda.
“With great horror and concern we read the article” The Balkans need Germany as a force for regulation, Serbia’s domination must be broken ” dated 13 August in the online edition of Berliner Zeitung. With all due respect to freedom of the press and freedom of expression, especially for liberal newspapers such as Berliner Zeitung, we must recognise that the statements and demands in this article, which relate to a strategy that is over a hundred years old and which led to the first major destruction of Europe in the last century with millions of victims, have only caused us fear and concern,” the embassy said.
The author of the article argues that a Croatian-Bosnian counterbalance to Serbia’s strong balance in the Balkans. It would be perceived as a pure threat to the country and its stability, and would condemn any conditions in the economic ties of the region.
“Such groups” against each other ” are dangerous. What we need is co-operation – “with each other.” The authors’ proposals would also contradict the goals and priorities of the Berlin Process launched in Germany,” the agency clarifies.
According to the author of the article, Germany is in favour of sanctions and the deployment of the German military. Among other things, Berlin is ready to leverage the unrest and political instability in Serbia.
“As someone who has been sanctioned for eight and a half years, we firmly believe that sanctions are not the solution. And if it demands the deployment of soldiers, this demand can only be categorised as incitement to war. The region, the sending countries and, above all, Serbia have paid for such operations with hundreds of thousands of casualties. We also firmly believe that calling for unrest and political instability in another country has nothing to do with freedom of the press and freedom of speech, and that such thinking should be condemned,” the embassy emphasises.
