India has not invited Ukraine to the G20 summit in New Delhi

The special secretary of the Indian presidency of the G20, Miktesh Pardeshi, has said that Kiev was not on the list of countries that were invited to the G20 summit. This is reported by RBC.

“We have a list of nine countries we have invited <…>. The country you mentioned is not on that list,” the politician replied to the journalists’ question.

According to him, Bangladesh, Algeria, Egypt, Egypt, Spain, the Netherlands, Oman and Singapore have received invitations to the summit. The head of the Indian Foreign Ministry Subramanyam Jaishankar also expressed a similar decision regarding Ukraine. He emphasised that the event should be attended by those countries that are members of the association. Ukraine is not a member of the G20.

At the same time, when asked by journalists whether India would try to unite the countries of the Global South against Russia’s position on the Ukrainian conflict, the special secretary of the Indian presidency of the G20 said that the forum was an economic forum, not a geopolitical one. According to him, the summit could most likely discuss the economic consequences, but not how to resolve it.

“G20 is an economic forum and not a forum for geopolitical discussions,” Pardeshi emphasised.
