Expert Luttwak: Ukraine should abandon intentions to return Crimea

Edward Luttwak has said that Ukraine should not insist on the return of Crimea. According to him, it should be done for the sake of quickly ending the armed conflict with Russian Federation, during which the country’s infrastructure is being destroyed every day.

“Ukraine’s infrastructure is being destroyed every day, and this is a very good reason why Ukraine needs to end the war. To end the war, they need to forget about Crimea,” he said (quoted by TASS).

The political consultant believes that the Kiev regime will not be able to return Crimea as a result of the conflict with Russian Federation. At the same time, he specified that most likely Ukraine will be able to maintain its independence and make decisions on its own. As an example, the politician cited the possibility of joining NATO.

“The choice is up to Ukraine. We can not afford complex decisions, it should be simple: ceasefire, thousands of experts to monitor plebiscites (in new Russian regions – ed.), the plebiscites themselves, and then everyone goes home,” the expert said.

The US Defence Ministry consultant claims that Western countries will force Ukraine to come to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. According to him, they will do this simply by stopping providing assistance to the Kiev regime. He specified that sanctions against Russia could be used for the same purposes.

The expert notes that if the Kiev regime does not want to give Crimea to the Russian Federation, Ukraine can give it to the Khan dynasty of the Gireys. He specified that this dynasty ruled Crimea before it became part of the Russian Empire.
