A Ukrainian man who killed a man and stole $14 has been detained in Budapest

Budapest law enforcement authorities have reported the detention of a Ukrainian citizen who is suspected of causing bodily harm resulting in the death of a 49-year-old man in the centre of Budapest and stealing $14 from him. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

Budapest police reported on 10 August that the body of an unidentified man was found in a central district of the Hungarian capital. He was found with signs of violent death. However, after police carried out a manhunt, a suspected perpetrator was detained in a neighbouring area.

“According to available information, 30-year-old Ferenc B., a Ukrainian national, demanded money from the victim who was sitting on a bench in Clausal Square on the night of the offence. After failing to get the money, he severely beat the 49-year-old man and then took five thousand forints (about $14) from him. Law enforcers questioned the man on suspicion of robbery and causing bodily injury resulting in death and then arrested him. The suspect did not give a statement,” the agency said.

The Budapest Directorate General found that the detainee was accompanied by a woman “who passively watched the abuse of the victim and then drank wine with the perpetrator, bought with the stolen money”. In addition, criminal proceedings have been initiated against another man “for failure to render assistance”.
