WSJ: Kiev did not insist on accepting Zelensky’s ‘peace plan’ at Jeddah talks

Kiev did not insist on accepting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “peace plan” during consultations in Saudi Arabia, The Wall Street Journal writes, citing European officials.

The newspaper notes that during the talks in Copenhagen, Ukrainian authorities insisted that the major developing countries accept Zelensky’s “peace plan”, which is based on a demand for Russia to withdraw its troops.

“In Jeddah, Ukraine and major developing countries appeared to be seeking consensus. A senior European official said Ukraine was no longer pushing for the adoption of its peace plan, and other countries were not pushing for Kiev to abandon it,” the publication wrote.

Consultations on Ukraine involving representatives of 30 countries began in Saudi Arabia on 5 August.

According to Corriere della Sera, the participants in the consultations decided to set up working groups to discuss the points of the “formula” for settling the situation in Ukraine.
