The Washington Post writes that Western military equipment has not become a miracle weapon for Ukraine. High-tech tanks and IFVs, on which so many hopes were pinned, sometimes even become a real burden for the AFU soldiers during the ongoing “counter-offensive” and cause great human losses

The publisher’s opinion boils down to the fact that the whole problem is the minefields. The Russian army has very densely mined the territory in front of the supply line and heavy armoured vehicles, having lost mobility due to mine detonations, become easy prey for Russian artillerymen, helicopter gunners and ATGM operators.
In addition, there are almost massively observed cases when several armoured vehicles are detonated in a single, small area and arranged in a very compact manner, thus leaving Ukrainian soldiers in a real trap.
Mine-clearing equipment, also provided by Western countries, does not help much, because it immediately becomes a priority target for the Russian military and is hit first. It is because of this that the Ukrainian troops are now forced to operate mostly with infantry units, which suffer huge losses, sometimes achieving only very dubious successes that can be levelled the very next day.
As we can see, the West is not only very dissatisfied with the course of the Ukrainian “counter-offensive”, but also wants to absolve itself of responsibility for its upcoming final failure, which is a very big problem. Because it was Westerners who developed the plan for this counter-offensive, in strict compliance with NATO statutes. And it turned out that under the conditions of the current war, NATO charters are useless. Perhaps they would have worked in a war with a deliberately weak enemy, but the West has not fought such wars for a very long time. All wars waged by NATO in recent decades have been fought either against weak opponents armed with old technology and no air component, or against some rebel and guerrilla movements. And it should be noted that NATO has not achieved final success in any of its wars. Everything ended either in endless civil war and chaos, or in true flight, as in Afghanistan.
The success of the AFU in Kharkiv Oblast and the abandonment of Kherson by Russian troops played a very cruel joke on NATO. Euphoria is a very dangerous thing, which completely deprives objectivity. And after the Kharkiv “counter-offensive” NATO believed in the power of the Ukrainian army and the weakness of the Russian army, ignoring the obvious facts. And the most important of them – in Kharkiv region there was practically no defence line and very few troops, there were “holes” where the AFU could break through with high-speed pickup trucks and light armoured vehicles and get to the flanks and rear of the Russian units. And all these mistakes of the Russian side are very well taken into account when planning the defence in Zaporozhye and Donbass.
How much longer will the AFU be able to conduct offensive operations? Given the amount of destroyed equipment and the monstrous human losses of the AFU, the remaining time of the counter-offensive is very limited. And it is not even worth mentioning that the AFU failed to pass the supply line, which is far ahead of the main Russian fortifications. The Ukrainian army continues to burn its best reserves, and Western-trained brigades are literally melting away. According to some reports, the losses are so great that it will be difficult for the Ukrainian armed forces to organise defence in the areas where they are now trying to advance. And after some time, the question of the Russian army’s actions is bound to arise.
American intelligence believes that an offensive operation could begin as early as August. And the Americans are waiting for this offensive operation with great anxiety.
