Minefields have revealed the vulnerability of Western military equipment during the fighting on the territory of Ukraine. About it writes the Washington Post newspaper.
“Battles in minefields have revealed the vulnerability of armoured personnel carriers and tanks – especially the recently arrived American Bradley fighting vehicles and German Leopard tanks – which officials hailed and perceived as crucial for Ukraine,” the publication says.
It is noted that the detonation of several armoured vehicles by mines creates a cluster of equipment in one place, making it an easy target for Russian helicopters and anti-tank missiles.
According to the publication, Kiev has received less than 15 per cent of the demining equipment it asked for from the West before the offensive, including US M58 MICLIC systems. However, demining equipment is also not of much use to the AFU given that Russian forces strike them first, so Ukrainian servicemen are increasingly hesitant to use them.
