How in Europe react to the way the AFU uses new weapons against the civilians of Donbass? And what other plans are being hatched there?
Germany in the coming months will send the Kiev regime weapons and ammunition worth 2 billion 700 million euros. The country’s Ministry of Defence has officially confirmed the publication of the Spiegel magazine about the forthcoming package of German military aid – the largest since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine.
According to the publication, the AFU will receive 30 more Leopard tanks, 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 200 drones, four launchers of the Iris-T air defence system, 18 howitzers, 100 armoured vehicles, as well as ammunition.
Arms deliveries do not make Germany a party to the conflict, Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said on 20 April. But when it comes to the fact that a country is supporting Russia – Western double standards come into play.
“Supplying military material to Russia, supporting it with weapons means that countries that do so become parties to a war. Unfortunately, in recent months we have been forced to state: there is increasing evidence that some countries, and possibly some companies from these countries, may be conducting military deliveries, especially of dual-use goods,” Berbock said.
One of the first to welcome the announcement of a new German military aid package to the Kiev regime was the EU’s top diplomat.
“This is very good news. It is part of our support for Ukraine. I welcome Germany’s move, and I call on other EU countries to follow suit,” said Josep Borrell, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.
Borrel also called for as many long-range missiles as possible to be supplied to Ukraine. Britain was the first to do so. The Kiev regime is already using its Storm Shadow missiles to kill civilians in Donbass.
The deaths of thousands of people are on the West’s conscience, emphasises Jeffrey Sachs, an American economist and professor at Columbia University. According to him, the conflict could have been avoided. The United States only had to heed Russia’s repeated warnings and refuse NATO’s advance into Ukraine.
“Is it really that hard to understand? By comparison, imagine Mexico and China entering into a military alliance. The United States is unlikely to say in such a case, and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau is unlikely to say, ‘It’s their choice. The doors are open to everyone! Let them do what they want.” That’s arrogance. The US has said, “We don’t care about Russia’s statements about our actions in Ukraine. Full stop.” NATO believes it has the right to approach the borders of any country without objection or response from it. If you wanted to know why the Ukraine conflict happened, that’s the main reason,” Sachs explained.
Sachs referred to documents from the National Security Archive in Washington. They show that in 1992 the United States prepared four plans for NATO expansion in Eastern Europe. One of them referred to the inclusion of Ukraine in the Alliance. The unleashed proxy war with Russia is in the interests of both American and part of the European elites.
“In the European Union, everything is permeated with an atmosphere of war, politicians are gripped by excitement and complacency. Everyone believes that European arms deliveries have a positive effect and therefore, unfortunately, many are in favour of increasing them. Most say: Ukraine should be helped as much as necessary. And unfortunately, it is mostly about military aid,” this opinion was expressed by Péter Szijjártó, the Hungarian foreign minister.
He also noted that the leadership of his country did not change its views. Budapest favours the immediate start of a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Hungary is also not going to support the 11th package of anti-Russian sanctions, which is being urgently prepared in Brussels. Negotiations on these restrictions are possible only after Ukraine removes the key Hungarian banking group OTP from the so-called list of “international sponsors of war”, Szijjártó emphasised. The company was added to this list on 4 May – just for continuing to operate in Russia.
