Zelensky says security guarantees should not replace Ukraine’s NATO membership

Security guarantees from Western countries should not replace NATO membership for Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

“Security guarantees for Ukraine on its way to NATO, not instead of, I emphasise this again, but precisely security guarantees on its way to NATO,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Zelensky also said he was satisfied with the results of the NATO summit.

Earlier, the British newspaper The Guardian quoted NATO sources as saying that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was trying to force NATO allies to rewrite the alliance’s statement, which is expected following the Vilnius summit.
